Habs Cricket U13 A Team End of Season Report

Season Stats

The start of our season was typical England, it rained. There was so much rain that four of our matches were cancelled consisting of Magdalen College School, Watford Grammar School for boys (County cup Round two), Haileybury, St Albans School and our Pre-Season training. Due to all the rain and bad weather our County Cup match was re-scheduled to the 9th of May and with only a few net sessions; we were going into a County Cup match with no practice out of the square. Despite this fact, we all persevered and went out onto the pitch batted, bowled, and fielded the best we could, and we could not be happier as we won by 55 runs with little threat during the match. Our main takeaway from the match was that we bowled too many extras making the game much closer than it needed to be.

We then played Forest School and QE Barnet, claiming victory in both matches. Our next match was against Berkhampstead School, which we all knew wasn’t going to be as simple as our previous matches. The match started with us bowling and bowling well until the middle overs arrived where the Berkhampstead batters started to punish the bowlers for almost any ball they bowled. We managed to restrict them to a tough total of 139 leaving us to chase 140 to win. Our batting was very good, but we came just short of the total reaching 137 runs. It was a close and tough match, but it came down to one issue in our bowling. Extras.

We continued to work hard on our bowling, battingand fielding during games sessions and training sessions during lunch times and after school. We then have our County Cup semi-final against Aldwickbury School. We were bowling first, and they managed to score 103-7, as a team we bowled 9 wides and 0 no-balls, our bowling was getting much better and we were now starting to give ourselves a much easier game than we had played in other games. Our batting started a bit rocky, but we managed to secure the win meaning we were through to the County Cup Semi-finals who we later found out would be against St Albans School.

Prior to the final, we had a T10 tournament at Bedford School. We played against Haileybury, The Hall and Bedford Prep. Our first match was against Haileybury where we played well, scoring 75 runs. We were confident going into our bowling but Omar A for Haileybury managed to be retired in 9 balls having hit 27 in one over. In that game we lost our heads messed up the bowling plan and people were moving their positions goingtoo narrow, wide, close, deep. But realising this we needed to keep our heads up, realize what we did wrong and fix it.We then played against The Hall School. We bowled first and bowled well, letting off 70 runs in 10 overs for 7 wickets which was very good. Ishaan A, Darsh K and George P went out there batted their best and finished the game in 7.1 overs. Moving on into our last game who was against Bedford, we were ready for anything they had to throw at us. Our batting wasn’t the very best but going out onto that field we all knew what our jobs were, and we had to go and perform them to our highest abilities. Which we did by restricting them to one run less than us, meaning we won the game. From this tournament we learnt so much about each other and the game that we didn’t already know such as our game plans and how to adapt them as the game progressed.

We then played St Albans School in the County Cupsemi-finals who we beat with ease meaning we were through to the finals of the County cup against Hitchin Boys’ who knocked us out of the cup last year.

The final pre cup final match was against MTS and unfortunately we lost by 129 runs which was very unfortunate for us because our next match was the County cup final, but we didn’t let it bother us and we kept our heads held high. We had learnt so much for all the games it was all going to help our performance in the highly anticipated cup final.

25th June the day arrived we lost the toss and Hitchin elected to bat first. Our bowling was incredible, only bowling 5 wides. It’s the best we had performed with the ball all season. Restricting Hitchin to 69 at the end of their innings we went out there with the belief in our hearts that we could do this. We unfortunately lost two wickets quite quick, but Darsh K came in hitting 15 runs and Elliott K came in hitting 39 runs and steering the match to amagnificent finish in 13th over and managing to bring the County Cup back to Habs.

Overall, we all had an amazing season for the U13As learning so much and improving all our personal games. On behalf of the whole team, we have enjoyed this season so much and we want to give thanks to Mr. Kerry, Mr. McIntosh, and Mr. Hewitt.
