Habs Boys u13 v St John’s Leatherhead u13

The day had come, we knew St John’s Leatherhead would be a very good team and it would be a good match. We started strong, multiple good attacks but the opposition were looking strong as well. They had two very talented wingers whipping a lot of crosses in to the box but we broke the deadlock first after Aiden drove strong to the byline and was fouled in the box. Penalty. Anthony placed it into the bottom corner to put us 1-0 up. We were pushing for a second but they also were pushing for an equaliser. We won a corner and the ball got headed out to Zac Tillman who controlled the ball and volleyed it onto the bottom side of the bar to put us 2-0 up. We wanted more. We had good chances until one of their players scored a very good volley to make it 2-1. Soon after we got unlucky with Artmigan’s header just going wide and their keeper making some very good saves. The half time whistle blew and we new we needed a strong start to the second half. This half was quite scrappy with them pushing for an equaliser whilst we tried to hold on. They had a really good chance in the box but Leo made a brilliant save to deny him. We were holding on and defending well. We had a few average chances but nothing big until it was in the last minute. They had a corner and the majority of their team was in the box. The cross found the head of their massive centre-back who headed towards goal. I thought it was going in until Leo produced a fabulous save to deny him.

The ref blew his whistle and we won the game we were full of relief and on to the next round.
